Pirates to Host Spurs in Carling Knockout

Orlando Pirates are set to host Cape Town Spurs in the opening round of the Carling Black Label Knockout, scheduled to kick off later this month.

The all-new competition was launched on Tuesday afternoon, marking the return of the League Cup after a four-year absence from the South African football calendar.

Fresh off their MTN8 triumph, the Buccaneers were drawn against the Urban Warriors in the draw held in Hyde Park in what is a revival of a rivalry that has served up many memorable cup encounters.

The two sides have previously met in two League Cup finals and last faced off in a cup game during the 2018 Nedbank Cup Round of 32, with the Soweto Giants triumphing at Orlando Stadium to progress to the next round.

Having last won the competition in 2012 under a different title sponsor, Pirates will be looking to add another piece to their collection of silverware while Spurs embark on a mission to clinch their first trophy since 2015.

The iconic venue in Soweto will once again provide the backdrop for what promises to be an exciting clash, with the date and kick-off time set to be announced in due time at a later stage.
