Bucs Stars Named in Bafana Preliminary Squad

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has named a 34-man preliminary squad that includes four Orlando Pirates players ahead of the June international break.

South Africa face off against Morocco in the last of their AFCON qualifiers, taking place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 17 June.

All four Buccaneers that did duty in the March fixtures against Liberia have been retained in the squad, which is due to be trimmed down to 23 players ahead of the game against the Atlas Lions.

Bucs skipper Innocent Maela has made the cut, along with fellow defender Nkosinathi Sibisi.

Maela was a starter in Bafana’s 2-1 win away to Liberia, making his 12th international appearance, while Sibisi was an unused sub in both qualifiers.

They are joined in the squad by midfielders Miguel Timm and Monnapule Saleng, who both debuted for the national team last November.

All four players will be part of the squad that will assemble for pre-camp on Wednesday 31 May, before before the final 23-man group gathers 11 days later in preparation for the fixture.
