DDC Preview: Chippa United

Orlando Pirates Reserves are in Atteridgeville for their next DStv Diski Challenge fixture as they gear up to take on Chippa United at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

It’s an early-morning kick-off for the young Buccaneers and the Chilli Boys, who get Sunday’s festivities underway.

Form Guide

Inconsistent results have derailed the Soweto Giants’ charge for the title at a very crucial period of their campaign and they now head to Sunday’s clash in third place, eight points behind the log-leading Stellenbosch. This is after falling to a 1-0 defeat to the team from the Cape Winelands in their most recent outing held at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium last Sunday.

It was their second defeat in their last five games, where they have only managed five points out of a possible 15 through a solitary win and two draws.

Having finished the first half of the season as the league’s best attacking team, the Bucs Reserves’ free-scoring exploits appear to be a thing of the past. They have only four goals to show for their efforts over the past five weeks, all coming from their 4-0 win against rivals Moroka Swallows.

Pirates will be looking to rediscover their scoring boots against a Chippa side enduring a rough patch of their own, with defeats in each of their last four games.

The young Chilli Boys boast a solitary point in their five most recent fixtures, which came via a one-all stalemate at home to Sekhukhune United and are currently 12th in the standings.

They will be eager to kickstart a strong finish to their campaign with an upset victory over the Buccaneers, who are also desperate to overturn their own fortunes.

Head-to-Head

Pirates are looking to complete a league double over their Chippa counterparts, following their victory in the reverse fixture where Mbekezile Mbokazi, Mohau Nkota, and Senzelumusa Sibiya each found the net in the second half to ensure a convincing 3-0 victory.

It was the Bucs Reserves’ third straight win against the Chilli Boys, whose last victory in the fixture came over two years ago when they claimed a 3-2 win in Gqeberha.

Four of the last five games between the two sides have gone the way of the Buccaneers, who have scored an impressive 12 goals while only conceding five.
