Orlando Pirates Reserves take a short trip to Dobsonville Stadium for their next DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) fixture against Moroka Swallows on Saturday.
It’s a second Soweto Derby in the space of three weeks for the Bucs Reserves, who are desperate to make the most of the few points available to them with just half a dozen fixtures remaining in their campaign.
Form Guide
Winning form has eluded the young Buccaneers over the past few weeks, with no victories registered in their last four fixtures. This has seen them drop out of the top three for the first time in 2024, and they currently sit in fourth place with a seven-point difference between themselves and the log leaders.
They have only managed five points in their five most recent outings, winning one and drawing two games while also falling on the losing side twice.
Their last result was a disappointing stalemate away to Sekhukhune United where neither side could find the net, with the game eventually finishing goalless.
For Swallows, the Derby could be an opportunity to launch a strong finish to a season where wins have been hard to come by throughout.
The Birds have just three points to show for their efforts in their last five fixtures, all secured via a rare victory in their game against fellow strugglers TS Galaxy which took place two weeks ago.
Currently in 14th place, they will be seeking a vast improvement on their last result – a 3-2 defeat to a 10-man Polokwane City on home turf.
Head-to-Head
This will only be the seventh DDC meeting between the two Soweto outfits, whose rivalry in the competition only dates back to the shortened 2021 season.
Each of the six previous matches has produced a winner, with the Bucs Reserves currently the more dominant side with four victories. This includes the reverse fixture at Rand Stadium where Lonwabo Magugwana and Lulama Nxumalo each got on the scorecard before a late brace from Mohau Nkota completed a 4-0 routing.
The hosts will not only be seeking their third win over their neighbours but also their first on home turf, with both their victories in this fixture coming on the road.
