The stage is set for the pinnacle of the 2024 Pirates Cup with the knockout fixtures confirmed after the conclusion of the group stages on Saturday.
Just 20 of the 64 teams that participated in what has been another electrifying edition of the tournament remain as the men’s competition enters the Round of 16, while the four women’s teams are set to battle it out in the semifinals.
This is after the last six knockout spots in the men’s category were determined on the penultimate day, with Orbit College, East Rand Excellence Soccer Academy (ERESA), Midlands Academy, and Emalahleni United all securing outright qualification. Meadowlands Academy and River Park completed the Last 16 as they went through as the best-placed runners-up across the 16 groups.
TS Galaxy, Wits University, Mamelodi Sundowns, and JVW are the four teams remaining in the women’s category, and all were entered into the semifinal draw which served up some interesting fixtures.
Galaxy and JWV are set to battle it out in the first semi, while Wits take on Sundowns in the parallel fixture. Both matches kick off at 14:00 with the final scheduled to get underway at 16:00.
The men’s fixtures meanwhile kick off early at 8:00 and include a match-up between the free-scoring Amahle and River Park alongside what promises to be a mouth-watering clash between Sekhukhune United and ERESA, both winners of their respective groups.
Last year’s runners-up Orbit College will also be on show early on as they take on Meadowlands Academy, while TS Galaxy’s encounter with Wits is among the eye-catching Round of 16 fixtures, along with SuperSport United’s battle against University of Johannesburg.
All 16 teams will be looking to advance to the quarterfinals which kick off at 11:50, with the semis and the highly-anticipated final scheduled to get underway at 14:00 and 16:00, respectively.
