DDC Preview: Sekhukhune United

Orlando Pirates Reserves meet Sekhukhune United in their next DStv Diski Challenge fixture taking place at Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday.

The Reserve League is now well and truly in the business end, with just 21 points available to each of the 16 competing teams.

Form Guide

Desperate for a win after managing a single point over the past three weeks, the Bucs Reserves head into the clash looking to claw their way back up from third place, where they sit eight points behind the table-topping Mamelodi Sundowns.

They failed to capitalise on a slip-up from second-placed Stellenbosch last Sunday, falling to a 2-0 defeat at the hands rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

The result stretched Pirates’ winless streak to three matches and they will be determined to improve their recent form, having collected seven points out of a possible 15 in their last 5 matches.

Squaring up against them on Saturday is a Sekhukhune side currently enduring a longer run without a win, with their last victory dating back to early February.

Babina Noko have since gone seven games since their last triumph, and have only three points to show for their efforts over the past five weeks.

After playing to a one-all stalemate in their derby clash against Polokwane City, the Limpopo outfit remain in seventh place and will be eyeing a spot higher up in the standings when they face off against the Soweto Giants.

Head-to-Head

Spoils were shared in the reverse fixture played at Rand Stadium earlier in the season when Mohau Nkota’s first-half strike was cancelled out early in the second period en route to one-all stalemate.

The result not only ensured Sekhukhune’s first league point against Pirates, but also produced their first-ever goal in what was the fifth encounter at this level between the two sides.

In their four previous clashes with the young Babina Noko, the Buccaneers bagged four straight wins, netting nine unanswered goals.
