Orlando Pirates will have their oldest rivals to contend with when the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season kicks off early next month.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) issued out the provisional list of fixtures for the upcoming season, which gets underway on the first weekend of August.
The first of the highly-anticipated match-ups takes place on Friday 5 August, with Pirates set to be among the early kick-off the following day when they take on Swallows in another exciting instalment of the Original Derby. The game will be staged at the iconic Orlando Stadium, and it’s scheduled to start at 15:00.
Following their meeting with the Dube Birds, the Buccaneers are set to travel south to take on Stellenbosch at Danie Craven Stadium in a midweek clash on Wednesday the 10th, followed by a return home to square up against Chippa United.
The rest of the August fixtures will see Pirates make stops in Durban and Pretoria, where they will face Royal AM and SuperSport United, respectively. This is before hosting Marumo Gallants in Soweto on Wednesday 24 August, with the last weekend of the opening month set aside for the MTN quarter-finals.
The following months are filled with more enticing match-ups, including the season’s first Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs, with the Buccaneers hosting their biggest rivals at FNB Stadium on 29 October, less than two weeks before domestic matches are brought to a halt due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The League is set to resume on Friday 30 December, with the Nedbank Cup scheduled to start in early February 2023, before the season draws to a close on the 28th of May.
