Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates meet for another exciting instalment of the Soweto Derby this Saturday, with the highly-anticipated fixture at FNB Stadium expected to pull a sell-out crowd.
Thousands of tickets have been sold ahead of the DStv Premiership encounter featuring the two most supported teams in South Africa, and a turnout of well over 80 000 football lovers is anticipated.
With this being a spectacle like no other, several measures have been taken to ensure safety as well as a smooth match day experience for those who will be taking in the action from the iconic venue.
Road Closures
Road closures and other traffic control measures affecting several routes around FNB Stadium will be implemented from 8:00 on Saturday.
The specific routes for vehicles heading to the Stadium’s VIP, hospitality, and public parking areas are thoroughly explained in the Transport and Traffic Management plan. The details can be found on Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) website, www.stadiummanagement.co.za.
Parking Options
For your convenience, designated parking zones have been provided within the stadium precinct at no charge. To ensure smooth traffic flow, look out for directional signage guiding you to parking and drop-off areas.
It’s important not to make payments for parking to unauthorised individuals, as parking is managed by SMSA. Gates will open at 11:30, and those making their way to the venue are urged to note that strict traffic control measures, including road closures, will be in place from 8:00.
Shuttle Services
Match organisers along with service providers have made a few convenient transport options available.
Rea Vaya is again among the options, with shuttle services operating from Thokoza Park, Library Gardens, Ellis Park, and Dobsonville.
The first bus at Thokoza Park will depart at 11:15, with the service at the other three stations commencing at 12:00. These will operate at intervals of five to 15 minutes, with the last buses to FNB Stadium departing from 15:00 across the stations with the exception of Dobsonville, where the last shuttle leaves at 14:30.
After the match, the first buses from the stadium all depart at 17:00, with the last shuttles leaving the venue at 19:00.
There are additional transportation options available, including taxis, Park and ride services, and Gautrain buses will begin operating from 09:00 am onwards.
