DDC Preview: Lamontville Golden Arrows

Orlando Pirates Reserves are in Clermont for this weekend’s DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) assignment, continuing their campaign with a clash against Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium hosts October’s first DDC festival with the two sides providing Saturday’s show stopper.

Form Guide
Ahead of Match Day 7, it is the Buccaneers who go into the fixture higher up the table in seventh place. This is despite some disappointing results over the past two weekends where they returned a single point out of a possible six.

The recent turn of results began with a heavy defeat away to TS Galaxy, which was followed by a goalless stalemate on their return to home soil against Magesi. The point earned in their most recent outing took their points tally to nine in six matches this season via two wins and three draws.

For their opponents, the new campaign is yet to yield a victory as they sit in 14th place with just one point earned in their five matches. Abafana Bes’thende are coming off back-to-back defeats against AmaZulu and Polokwane City, with each of the two matches finishing in a 3- 1 scoreline.

They will be looking to avoid a third straight loss as they go into battle with a Buccaneers side in search of their first win in three weeks.

Head-to-Head
Pirates Reserves have enjoyed a dominant spell over their Arrows counterparts in recent years, having beaten them home and away last season. This was the Buccaneers’ second league double over Abafana Bes’thende in as many seasons.

Over the last six encounters, the team from KZN has only managed a solitary point which they collected through a 2-2 stalemate at home in April 2022. The Soweto giants have meanwhile collected five wins during this period, netting an impressive 14 goals while only letting in three.
